About Rooted Threads
The Return
In September 2023, we traveled to Ghana for a personal trip that left a lasting imprint on the vision behind Rooted Threads.
Through every sense: sound, scent, taste, texture, and color; we experienced culture in motion! From museums to markets, the journey offered powerful reminders of legacy, beauty, and connection.
It felt like we had finally made it home. A homecoming that honored ourselves, our ancestors, and the living relatives who have not yet had the chance to make the journey.
The Impact
That experience became a turning point. Because our daughters were not able to travel with us, we brought home every sense we could carry in a suitcase or capture in a photo or video. And somehow, they felt it too... the pull to be closer, the pride of being African Diasporan, the desire to stay connected to the continent.
Rooted Threads is a family-owned brand, inspired by and creatively led by two young sisters with big dreams, ages 12 and 7. The girls are creative, full of energy, and deeply proud of their African ancestry and all the beauty it holds.
You will see that our ROOTS collections are intentionally named “Imani” and “Asha.” These collections are inspired by our daughters, not just in the names, but the energy and spirit of who they are.
Our daughters are the motivation behind everything we do, and together as a family we are building something rooted in purpose, pride, and possibility.

Our Products
At Rooted Threads, every product is created with intention, cultural care, and community in mind. Our designs honor heritage while meeting everyday needs for natural hair, self-expression, and connection across the Diaspora.
How Our Products Are Made
Each collection begins with youth-led imagination and family collaboration. Designs are guided by meaning, not trends, and brought to life in partnership with artisans in Ghana using authentic African fabrics. We work in small batches to ensure quality, fairness, and care at every step.
Our hair accessories and headwear are made with natural hair in mind, with many pieces satin-lined to reduce friction, retain moisture, and protect curls, coils, braids, and locs. From stitching to tag placement, every detail is thoughtfully finished to reflect our standards and story.
Small Batch, Not Mass Made
Because our pieces are handmade, no two items are exactly the same. Fabric cuts and pattern placement may vary slightly, making each piece uniquely its own. Every item is still crafted with care, precision, and excellence.
The RT Ghana Team
Rooted Threads is supported by a small, dedicated team on the ground in Ghana who assist with local sourcing, production coordination, and quality oversight. Their commitment, care, and shared values help keep our work rooted in integrity and connection.
